My early career included the diverse skills of musician, composer, videographer, photographer and linear editor. Exploring each of these avenues allowed me to gain a thorough understanding of the components that go into production and post-production. I moved into nonlinear editing at one of the first uncompressed nonlinear facilities in the Southeast, where I also began working with compositing, effects and color correction.
After moving to another high-end facility, I started Outpost Pictures in February 2000. I realized that my experience with high-end and high-cost systems could be applied to the emerging desktop systems. As the desktop publishing revolution was starting to be applied to video, I knew that I could give clients excellent work in a more flexible fashion. The affordability of the tools was bringing the focus back to where it should be—experience, talent and know-how.
While Outpost Pictures started with just myself and a laptop, today we are a full-featured post-production company with offices in Birmingham and Atlanta. We offer a complete range of post services from editing to color grading, motion graphics design, compositing, effects, multiple format delivery, and a great cup of java.
In early 2003 Jared Shull joined Outpost as a second editor, not terribly long after a TV news director had told him, “Son, this ain’t MTV…It’s a news station.” Jared is a two time Emmy Award winning editor with a passion for great storytelling. Nothing cranks his tractor like a strong narrative.
Motion graphics artist David Vinson joined the Outpost team midway through 2008. He is a classically trained artist who spent many years working with traditional materials before jumping onto a Quantel PaintBox in the mid-90's. This collision of art and technology helps explain David's layered design sense—half seamless visual effects and half multi-leveled collage drawn from many influences.
In August 2008 Kristi Sasser left a local "cube farm" to come onboard with Outpost. With a degree in Advertising and Journalism, she was excited about the opportunity to write, design, and become a total Mac Head. Kristi also provides client support services at Outpost, always with a creative flair.
At Outpost Pictures, we do great work. People tell us that all the time.
